Description
Habenaria medusa is a beautiful species native to Southeast Asia. This is a plant that goes dormant in the fall and winter. The leaves eventually die back and there is an underground tuber that waits till the days get longer to grow and develop flowers. When in the dormant period water every 3 weeks when there are no leaves. The tubers can be kept in the dark at this time. Water more frequently when new growth begins allowing the potting mix to just approach dryness between watering. The spidery 3-4 inch white flowers with an orange center are magnificent to look at and there is a nice light fragrance. Grow in medium light to somewhat shady conditions. Fertilize in summer but not when the leaves begin to die back or when the plant is dormant.
