Description
Commonly known as the Yellow Lady's Slipper, this variety is the large flower form of this lovely North American orchid. Easy to grow in the garden, this species blooms with a lovely fragrance of apricots. The plants we are offering have been rescued, with permits, from wild populations in Minnesota growing in areas slated for construction. For those of you located in Hardiness Zones 2 through 7a, we recommend outdoor, in-ground growing of these orchids. Cypripedium are a water-loving genus, so it is important that the root system retains moisture, never drying entirely. As winter approaches, be sure to mulch the plants with 3" to 5" of leaf litter such as oak leaves after the first frost. These orchids typically lose their leaves between August and October, as they go dormant for the winter.
Please Note: Based on the time when these were harvested, this orchid will arrive with flowers already open. We cannot guarantee the perfect arrival of the flowers, but we will pack our best. They will be healthy plants and will grow and flower perfectly for you the next season! Prices are based on the size of the plant and the root systems. We ship these plants potted in bulb pans.
