Description
This uncommon species is native to the Bahia, Espiritu Santo, and Minas Gerais regions of Brazil. This large orchid blooms with 3-inch wide waxy, long-lasting flowers with a fantastic sweet fragrance.
We grow these in New Zealand sphagnum moss. Allow the moss to approach dryness between watering when in bud, flower or in the growing season. In winter allow the potting mix to become just dry between watering. Fertilize every 3rd watering or once per months. The leaves are really thick and sturdy and the pseudobulbs store water during the dry season in winter. Light levels should be bright and diffused, you can grow these at a little less light you would give a Cattleya .
