Description
Cymbidium kanran are native to North Vietnam and South China. They are cool growing Cymbidium yet are easier to flower than goeringii. They produce multiple flowers with slim, pointed petals and dorsals. They also have a nice fragrance somewhat similar to musk. These orchids tend to have larger leaves and bulbs than most of the other Jensoa subgenus Cymbidiums. These come in a wide variety of colors, and this batch has a maroon color to it.
Typically these blossom in the winter months. They do like mostly bright light. Full sun is OK for most of the day with slight shade (about 20%) during the noon to 4 o'clock time period. In coastal CA, which temperatures are cooler, they can be in full sun all the time.
They grow well in high drainage potting media like bark and perlite/pumice mixes. We usually find it easy here to grow ours in sphagnum moss as it airs out well yet holds lots of moisture when the roots demand it.
