Cork bark is a sustainable product that has a very gradual breakdown, making it ideal for mounting orchids. We have several plants that have been on the same cork slab for over 15 years! Thes slabs we sell are harvested from Cork trees (Quercus suber) from Portugal. The bark is peeled off the trees, then grows back in 2 to 5 years.
Often, the orchid plant will outgrow the cork slab before it biodegrades. If this occurs, simply mount the smaller slab onto a larger cork slab and there won't be any root damage. If you have a humid environment, epiphytic orchids need only be mounted bare-root. If the humidity levels are low, you can add New Zealand sphagnum moss or Oregon green moss to the slab to retain extra moisture.
Prices are by the size of each slab. Sizes are approximate and vary due to the irregular shapes and nature of this product. Cork Slabs are not uniform and some pieces may have cracks.
