Description
Known as the "Elegant Restrepia", our plant was originally awarded as Restrepia antennifera 'Edward' AM/AOS!. The flowers are indeed elegant, and upon close inspection they are downright dazzling, marked intricately with spots and stripes. From a distance, their bright color stands out against the leathery, spade-shaped leaves like little tongues of flame. On a mature plant, the flowers are numerous and appear frequently, flowering off and on throughout the year.
This easy to grow and bloom species likes intermediate temps in winter but will tolerate warmer temps to the mid 80's in summer. This plant prefers New Zealand sphagnum moss as a potting medium. Repot every year to year and a half with fresh moss. Keikis or baby plants will often develop a the upper base of the leaf and once these have roots an inch or two in length they can be removed and potted. These plants are several years in the growing to get them to this size.
