Native to Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, and Ecuador, this variety is the largest flowered Phrag. longifolium. The 'Fernbook' clone is a reliable grower and breeding parent, with flowers up to 10" wide. This species is a very hardy grower and will sequentially flower on the same spike for up to 1 year on large growths. Each flower lasts about 2 weeks, drops, takes a short break, and then will flower again. The photo example with the tall spike shows one that is blooming its 10th flower! This orchid loves water and should be watered frequently without letting the media dry entirely. Can be grown in a wide variety of potting media, including sphagnum moss, peat moss, small bark mixes, and a combination of these.
If you've never grown a Phragmipedium or Phrag. species, this is a great starter plant as it is the strongest growing of all the Phrags, and its hybrids are also very reliable.
