This is a hybrid mix of Central and South American Psychopsis, also known as the 'Butterfly Orchid' due to it's unique and elegant flower shape.
What Psycohpsis are best known for is their ability to re-flower on the same stem for multiple years, with some of the longest records being over 10 years! Each flower lasts 3 to 4 weeks. Once the flower drops, it will take anywhere between 1 and 4 weeks (sometimes longer) for another bud to develop and flower. The warmer the conditions and the larger the plant, the faster it will send another flower out. Sometimes, two flowers are open at once for a very short amount of time. The other interesting point about their flower spikes is if you mistakenly break one, just leave the remaining spike as they can branch off their nodes and create a side spike off of the original one as well. Because so much energy goes into their flower spikes, it is not uncommon for these plants to only have one spike for 2 to 3 years before sending out a 2nd spike. Warmer temperatures will lead to faster spike development.
Grow in moist potting medium, in shady conditions, with intermediate to warm temperatures for best results.
**Current plants are all blooming size, and should produce flower spikes in 2024.
