Description
We have just flowered the first two of these plants and we are surprised by the distinct yellow color and interesting markings. The orange color must be recessive, but expect pendulous sprays of 20 to 50 orange flowers with a spotted lip about 2 inches in size. This hybrid is unique in its ability to grow in a wide range of temperatures thanks to its parentage! The hybrid parent of this cross, the large-growing Cym. Janis Elaine Hoenig, has a complex lineage of 8 different species, with the most dominant influencing a preference for cool to intermediate temperatures. On the other hand, the species parent of this cross, Cym. canaliculatum, is a stiff-leaved orchid with small dark burgundy flowers that prefers bright light and warm temperatures. It is possible that some oranges will come forward from the cross. The first photos showing the yellow flowers are the ones we have bloomed.
